During September 2015 the 40 year old BBC Sports commissioned winter TV show ‘Ski Sunday’ came to the South Island of NZ to re shoot a fresh looking opening title sequence for the 2016 series that kicks off January. The sequence opens with a series of shots captured by our gyro stabilized filming platform Cinestratus. Images of the Southern Alps in all its glory captured in 4k 50p on our inhouse camera – the Sony FS7 accompanied by the 28-135mm 4k stabilized zoom lens. Helicopters play a key role in the story as we elaborate on the theme ‘Heli Skiing’.
On the days we used them to access difficult terrain we flew with our friends at Alpine Helicopters based out of the Wanaka airport. Location wise the majority of the content was filmed behind the Mt Aspiring National Park on the Clarke Glacier, where we were blessed with knee deep powder and back to back blue skies shoot days.
Once we had the meat of the shoot in the bag it was time to add the veg. Cardrona hosted us where we used the half pipe to shoot Ed’s moment and a private groomed slope where Graham had his pants pulled down at sunrise by NZ GS female skier.
We are very privileged to have worked with team at Ski Sunday for the past 9 years and look forward to our up and coming season in Europe where we will spend 7 weeks following the Alpine Skiing World Cup Downhill circuit, shoot & compile show links on location and complete any additional features for the 2016 8 part series.
